Q&A: ….I have been advised to go on a protein diet…most nigerian foods have 100% carbohydrate…any suggestions?

Q:
hi! I just ran into your blog. I am on a journey to loss weight & I can’t go to the gym as often as I want because of my busy schedule.
The challenge I have is “my diet” i have been advised to go on a protein diet. Most Nigeria foods are 100% carbs. I don’t know what to do anymore. Any suggestions?

A:
since you can’t make it to the gym often, dieting would be the key but you still got to workout because watching your diet is not enough to keep the fat off permanently, as you have a slow metabolism that needs to be addressed with exercise. When dieting you will lose weight no doubt but in most cases you will also lose some lean muscle mass which you would have to gain back by exercising. Increase in lean muscle mass, increases your metabolism which is the key to keeping bodyfat off permanently. If you can’t make it to the gym, there are a lot of other workouts you can do at home, such as jogging, aerobics, bodyweight exercises and so on. You don’t have to wait till you get to the gym. As for dieting I advice you to get a dietitian to draw out a diet plan for you. A diet plan that is based on “protein meals in Nigeria”. Some examples of protien meals you can include in your diet, atleast until you visit the dietitian, are; soya beans, chicken, fish, egg white and so on. You could also use supplements to increase your metabolism. Make sure not to starve yourself because it will seem to work at first but when you stop starving you will add the fat back and this time way faster than the last. Eating Small meals frequently is a way to prevent yourself from starving and it also helps to keep your body’s metabolism high.

you are advised to see a doctor before you make any significant changes to your diet and workout.

Interview: An interview with a client; Miss. Ijeoma Osuala

Q: What prompted you to start working out?

A: I started working out because I’m fat (she giggles) and I have to workout to lose weight. Also because of my fiancé.

Q: What keeps you motivated?

A: The fact that I have set a target keeps me motivated. My wedding is coming up soon and I know I have to lose weight before then.

Q: Who is your trainer and how has working with him/her benefited you?

A: Kaycee. I think he is more understanding, unlike my last trainer, who never allowed me rest, he made me do more and more work without resting but Kaycee knows when to tell me stop, rest, work and so on. And Kaycee’s approach and methods have benefited me, in that I have been able to lose 4kg in a little over 2weeks.

Q: What is your advise to those who aren’t working out?

A: My advise to those who aren’t working out is that, everyone needs good blood circulation everyday, so we all need to exercise daily, especially those that have the traits of diabetes and hypertension. Even stress; working out helps you to reduce stress.

Sexual benefits of regular exercise – find out how exercise can increase your libido and give you a more gratifying sex life.

Sex and exercise kind of go hand in hand in that more sex increases your gains at the gym while more exercise increases your productivity in bed. This article is just a ‘part 1’ of a 2 part series in which you will learn most of the sexual benefits of regular exercise. In this article (part 1) I will be highlighting some of the benefits.

In my course of business, as a fitness trainer, there is one particular question, among others, that has been thrown at me several times; are muscular guys good in bed? At first I found it difficult to answer this question because I felt awkward that somebody would ask me this question knowing that I’m a muscular guy. And the fact is that about 95% of the people that ask me this question are ladies. At first I got thinking, “do these ladies want to have sex with me or what?” then later I had a rethink; they are probably asking this question because they want to know whether the strength of a man is directly proportional to his performance in bed. Well with what I know now and researches that other exercise scientists have carried out in the past, I will say a big “YES!”. But I will also tell you that the fact that a man looks big doesn’t actually mean he is strong or he even exercises at all.

Now strength is not the only benefit of exercise neither is it the only factor that increases a man or woman’s productivity in bed. Strength is only one of the benefits of regular exercise, in relation to your sex life and in general. The following are a few highlighted sexual benefits of regular exercise:

Exercise Promotes The Release Of Endorphins.
when you talk about obstacle to having great sex, stress and fatigue are mentioned more often than not. Endorphins are released in the brain to combat a ‘stress hormone’ called cortisol, and the feeling of pressure. Endorphins are released when anyone exercises or has sex. The more frequent and intense the release of the endorphins, the easier it is for sexual arousal and pleasure.

Exercise Increases Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance and cardiovascular Endurance.
muscular strength plays a vital role in having an awesome sex life. Muscular strength makes it easier for you to sustain a wide variety of sexual positions that require great physical control, which makes your sex life more eventful and less monotonous. Cardiovascular endurance makes you last longer during sex – “Please tell me who won’t want that?”. Muscular endurance prevents you from having muscle cramps or injuries during sex – no body wants to have a leg cramp when “getting it on”. Lol.

Exercise Makes You Feel Sexy And Desirable.
Research has shown that exercising regularly and having a fit body improves your body image (feeling of “I’m sexy and I know it”) and makes you comfortable in your own body. This promotes libido (I have been experiencing this ever since I got into shape), relaxes you and increases your over all confidence and performance during sex.

We have come to the end of the ‘part 1’ of this series. In the ‘part 2’ I would be telling you other sexual benefits of exercise and the exercises to do to take advantage of all the sexual benefits of regular exercise. Till then, stay fit…………..

Please note that these sexual benefits of regular exercise, apply to both sexes.

you are advised to see a doctor before you make any significant changes to your diet and workout.

MBGN 2012 ‘top 12 contestants’ – Lastest pictures – which contestant has the body of a true beauty queen? find out! – Agbani Darego….

Personally I think the MBGN pageant is the most popular pageant in Nigeria and to be frank after about 25years of its existence I think it should be setting a standard for others to follow. From the fitness point of view I think it’s doing a good job of it.

Over the years there has been a lot of criticism thrown at the pageant and this year is no different. Infact this year seems even worse than ever. Lately there has been a lot of rumors and obvious facts floating across the media, about the pageant having two sets of sisters contesting this year, how the pageant has become an all igbo girls affair, how the girls aren’t photogenic and how the photographer, makeup artist and hair dresser should be hanged because of the poor photoshoot the girls had. Well as a fitness blogger I don’t concern myself with all that. What I focus on is the body of the contestants and whether they have a figure that can match others at the international level, since the winners are going to represent Nigeria at several international pageants.

The MBGN pageant has produced a Miss world beauty queen before (Miss Agbani Darego) and we are going to use her as our bench mark in judging our MBGN 2012 contestants.

From the pictures above you will notice that Agbani has, a low bodyfat %, a nicely trimmed mid-section, well tuned arms and legs and a killing figure 8. Her hip and bust are in the right proportion (anthropometry); not too big, not too small.

What I’m going to do now is to show you the latest MBGN contestants’ photos, that were released yesterday on their facebook fan page and based on this pictures I will tell you who and who has or is close to having Agbani Darego’s body figure. Scroll down to view the pictures of your 32 MBGN 2012 contestants’…..

As a fitness expert I have come up with a list of 12 ‘MBGN 2012’ contestants that fall into the ‘Agbani Darego’ category – body wise. In no particular order these are the 12 contestants;

– MISS ADAMAWA – Ofomah Chisokwue
– MISS YOBE – Oyenmwosa Allwell
Omoregie
– MISS TARABA – Onuoha Grace
– MISS OSUN – Okafor Christabel
Nkechinyere
– MISS OGUN – Majoro Winifred
– MISS NIGER – Chidueme Vivian Ifeoma
– MISS NASARAWA – Hadassah Emike
Benson
– MISS KWARA – Tomilayo Salami
– MISS KOGI – Charity Chinenye Obiora
– MISS IMO – Nsofor Gail Anulika
– MISS ENUGU – Adaugo Ndu
– MISS AKWAIBOM – Esther Ephraim

There you have it, your top 12 ‘MBGN 2012’ contestants with the bodies of a beauty queen of international standard (Agbani Darego). These 12 have been selected based on the following criteria (in relation to Agbani Darego); bodyfat %, anthropometry and trimness of Mid-section.

Please note that the selection was made based on the pictures above and their costumes made it difficult to determine whether or not some of the other contestants are fit to be in the top 12 as stated above. Also note that they were judged based on their bodies and not their facial features.
